QW 061712 “Catherine K. 20120512”

As I’ve written in QW 061612, Catherine Kobayashi, a news anchor from NHK World English, has become a role model for my pronunciation project. I’ve watched several of her Youtube clips. Watching her speak and begin fascinated by it alone will get you nowhere as you could easily imagine. One of the effective ways to emulate the ways someone speaks is listen to his or her speech repeatedly and try copying it. In order to listen Catherine’s speech as carefully as possible, I’ll try transcribing her clips as QW themes. Today’s video is the one uploaded on May 12th 2012.

"Indonesian police say what appears to be debris from a Russian plane has reportedly been found in mountains south of the capital, Jakarta… South Korea says it will seek international help in urging North Korea to stop jamming the satellite-based Global Positioning System. Electronic attack has raised safety concerns for aircraft and ships… And that’s exactly what investors and markets around the world are worried about. Ai Uchida joins us to check on those… (Smile) Japan’s cherry blossom season is something of the past. The tiny white petals fell to the ground last month. Now another kind of flower has got people reaching for their cameras. NHK Rose Rina Nakano reports from Ashikaga Flower Park… Just beautiful, aren’t they? Well, people are trying to go see the flowers and also keep an eye on the weather. Sayaka Mori joins us now for the World Weather Forecast.”
