QW 060412 “Long-awaited Feedback”

Finally, the long-awaited Skype English lesson service resumed today. It took me ages to access its website and had a new password reissued. After more than one hour of trying, I successfully reserved tonight’s class with my pronunciation teacher. Luckily, I was able to book two consecutive classes with him, which in fact allowed enough time to catch up with each other. After half an hour of chatting, we moved onto the article-reading session as usual. Oh, I almost forgot to mention this. The teacher gave me feedback while having small talks; the schwa at the end of the word “Philadelphia” and “idea”. My error might’ve made his disappointed to know that I still have trouble pronouncing the very last schwa properly.

Here’ the article we read tonight:
General Motors Decides to Stop Advertising on Facebook

Here’re six points that the teacher mentioned as the areas that need to be improved.
1) [æ] in “advertising”
2) The first schwa in “effectiveness”
3) Stronger blow in producing [t] in “AT & T”
4) The last schwa in “media”
5) [sez] in “says”
6) [ey] in “Facebook”

It was so nice talking with my pronunciation teacher after a long break. I was waiting for the moment to come for three weeks. Tonight he sounded perky and spontaneous, making me conceive that he usually talks to his friends and fellows in such way. He didn’t do any modified “Teacher Talk”, nor slow down the rate of his speech. Which he almost never does to me anyway. I’m not sure what other learners would think of him as. I don’t really care about that, to be honest. He’s THE good teacher for me.
