QW 020612 “Simon Doonan 2”

This is the second QW post that is to transcribe an excerpt from a podcast called “Conversation with Slate: Simon Doonan. Simon Doonan is “the Creative Ambassador-at-Large of the New York City-based clothing store Barneys (Wikipedia)”.

Simon on Mitt Romney:
Mitt is the only one worth commenting on basically because, I mean, what these guys do is they very carefully dress themselves so as to be unremarkable. That’s the goal. They don’t want you, me, or anybody talking about what they’re wearing. Um, you know, some of them are very desinent with their style and politics. There’s no room for style and politics. Think about it. The only stylish politicians are dictators, like Kim Yong Li, Castro. Fabulous style. Qaddafi, one of the all-time great fashion plates of, but they’re all dictators. See, so, … yeah, the uniform that you can embellish the land randomly. So in our democracy, there’s no room for style in politics. They have to be self-denying individuals who are devoted to everything other than vanity… Mitt is an intrinsically handsome guy. He’s a very swab (?). He has to be very careful not to look too good. So, you see these little attempts. Dishevelment. You know, his hair is more ruffled...Yeah, there’s hair out of place, and the shirt is a little too degage often without a tie. Otherwise, he looks too swab and too much of a lounge lizard. ‘Cause he is a handsome guy. So he can become very quickly look like, he’s just too smooth. That wouldn’t play well. So he’s, I think that’s the only worthy thing to know in the current campaign, I mean those vests Rick Santorum wears. I mean “Hello?”
