Quick Write 071411 “To-be-tested items of TOEIC”

Yesterday after class, one of the students in my TOEIC class showed me her most recent TOEIC score report. She achieved 100% on the grammatical skill in “Ability Measured” graphs, so I praised her highly. The thing is, folks, what she told me surprised, to be very honest with you, disappointed me. She said, “A lot of test items which were identical to the ones that I had solved in the other TOEIC class a few days earlier appeared on the actual test. And I answered them correctly! I just can’t thank Mr. X enough!!"… Oh, well, well. That was nice. Very nice. But I couldn’t help having mixed feelings. If her No. 1 priority of taking the TOEIC tests is to achieve as many scores as she can no matter what it takes (it is so for most of the TOEIC test takers, I guess.), it sure is nice, or even helpful or lucky to pre-study the “to-be-tested” items and achieve more scores than she should. So, should I, as a teacher, anticipate the to-be-tested items as precisely as possible and have my students learn before the test? Some of the TOEIC teachers do so, and probably they should. Still, I cannot help having mixed feelings… Oh, well, I remember now. I am a “punk teacher of TOEIC”. That’s why.
