Quick Write 070411 "Independence Day (the Fourth of July)"

Today, July 4th, is Independence Day in the U.S. I don’t know what it’s like exactly because I’ve never lived or stayed more than a few months there. While searching online articles as my daily reading routine (Yes, I read 5-6 online articles every day and tweet them on Twitter), I found a TIME article titled “Do July 4th Parades Turn Kids into Republicans?” The article refers to the stats from Harvard, quote, "When children were exposed at young age to the American fanfare associated with the Fourth of July, they were likely to vote for Republican and make campaign contributions to the party”. This rather audacious claim seems legitimate to me. To celebrate the birth of one’s nation can be associated with some kind of patriotism, and I understand that Republican people are more right-wing than Democrats. So it sounds natural that experiencing Independence Day event can trigger those kids’ leaning toward being patriotic, and eventually being more supportive of Republican. Well, talking about politics is not my thing, actually. But this article is intriguing enough to invite me to giving my thoughts to this important national holiday of American people with political perspectives.
